Mobile neck – aka “I use Instagram too much”

This post is in collaboration with Leesa, who provided a Leesa mattress and pillow for review. All opinions are my own.

You guys may remember my post back in March filled with my bedtime recommendations – if not, check it out here! Well, I’m back again with my Leesa mattress and their brand new pillow… and it came at the perfect time.

Recently, I’ve been suffering really badly from the dreaded mobile neck… you know, the one you get from hunching over your phone all day. According to experts, (Kapandji, Physiology of Joints, Vol. 3) “For every inch of Forward Head Posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds.” WHAT?! No wonder my neck has been getting worse and worse the more time I spend scrolling through Instagram!

The new Leesa pillow keeps your neck and spine aligned whilst you sleep, and its snazzy three layers of foam and fibre provide just the right amount of support. Combine this with the Leesa mattress and you’re setting yourself up for a perfect night’s sleep. I’ve always struggled with pillows and have never known what’s best… One or two? Hard or soft? What I love about the Leesa pillow is they’ve only created one. There’s no umm-ing and ahh-ing about which one will be most beneficial – this is the all-rounder that I’ve been looking for all these years. In fact, it’s so nice that my boyfriend has taken to jumping into bed before me so that he can steal it!

How to keep ‘mobile neck’ at bay:

  • Invest in a supportive mattress and pillow!

  • Do ‘the turtle’ – slowly move your head forwards for 5 seconds, and then back for 5 seconds… You look like a turtle but this seriously helps.

  • Become a yes man – stretch your neck muscles by nodding slowly up and down for 10 seconds at a time.

  • Take regular breaks from your phone.

After a dreamy night sleep, I spend a few minutes doing these two mobility and stretching exercises and am really noticing the difference! Do you suffer from phone-neck too? I’d love to hear your tips!
